Born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife – Canary Islands (Spain), October 27, 1952. On entering the Institute of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians she dedicated her early years to teaching. After having taken a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology and attended the two-year course in Salesian Spirituality at the ‘Auxilium’ Faculty in Rome, she undertook the role of animation in various communities in her province. She later attended a Formation Course for retreat directors at the University of Salamanca and subsequently was called to take on roles of accompaniment. Twice she guided Project Mornese in Spanish and she directed spiritual retreats for Sisters and young people. She also accompanied the candidates and postulants.
As Provincial Co-ordinator for formation, she co-ordinated the ongoing formation course for FMA from Spain and Latin America in Sanlúcar la Mayor. Later, she was Provincial Co-ordinator for youth ministry.
She was nominated Provincial Vicar and, since 2009, has been Provincial of the “Maria Auxiliadora” Province with its centre in Seville.
She was elected Councillor for Formation during General Chapter XXIII. In her response to Mother Yvonne asking her if she would accept, Sr. Nieves said: “I learned from Mother Mazzarello always to say YES, even when things might have seemed to be beyond what I was capable of. With trust I say YES”.
