Welcome Mother Yvonne to Mozambique
Maputo (Mozambique). On March 11, 2016, the Mother General of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, Mother Yvonne Reungoat, arrived in Mozambique and was received with much joy by the Sisters, the children, and the Salesian Family with flowers and dances of Mozambique.
This is the first time Mother General comes to Mozambique and it is a grand feast for the FMA. Mother Yvonne participates in the Spiritual Retreat of the Provincials of the Interprovincial Conference Africa Madagascar (CIAM) from March 12 to 18. She will be present at the CIAM meeting on March 19-20 and on March 21, she will begin a short visit to St. John Bosco Province (MOZ). She will have some meetings in the southern area of the Country and, after Easter, she will go to the North to meet with the Sisters of the three communities.
To welcome Mother at the airport were: Sr. Zvonka Mikec; sisters from the nearby houses; the Salesian Provincial, Fr. Marco Biaggi and his Vicar, Fr. Francesco Pescatore and other Salesians; the World Counsellor for the Past Pupils, Sr. Ana de Lurdes Cala; by the President of the Past Pupils, Sr. Nora Vasco Macobola and other members of the Salesian Family; by pupils of the elementary and middle Schools of Infulene; by Mother Rosetta Literacy Centre of the Garden barrio; by Mary Help of Christians School in Namaacha that offered flowers. Larson Seifane, a fourth grader in Don Bosco Elementary School of Infulene, greeted Mother in Italian in the name of all the children and young people. Mother responded in Portuguese saying that she was very happy to be able to get to know Mozambique.
Mother thanked everyone for the lovely, festive welcome of songs and dances typical of Mozambique and executed by the past pupils of Don Bosco Professional School of Jardim and the young people of Good Shepherd Parish, also from the Garden Barrio.
Mother Yvonne was accompanied to the Provincial House where she was received by the Community and the oldest Sister of the Province, Sr. Carla Baietta, 99 years old, the first sister to arrive in Mozambique in the distant 1952 to bring the beautiful Salesian adventure.
In the evening, the Eucharist was celebrated by the Salesian Provincial, Fr. Marco Biaggi, and concelebrated by his Vicar, Fr. Francesco Pescatore. This was followed by supper with the community and the Animators of the three communities in Maputo; the Good Night of Mother continued to show her gratitude for the welcome and for the beautiful reality that the Salesian Family lives and shares.
Upon her arrival at Namaacha on March 12, Mother was festively received by the Sisters of the two communities of Namaacha, the Provincials, FMA and SDB Novices, Salesians, Past Pupils, and members of the Salesian Family, by local authorities, children of the elementary school and middle schools of Mary Help of Christians School, by the resident children who accompanied her pilgrimage with the song, “We Welcome You among Us with our Whole Heart”. This welcome was also marked by the traditional wearing of the ‘Capulana’, a typical weave of the women of Mozambique that expresses the identity of a woman-mother who puts herself at the service of the family, and by flowers offered by two resident children.
The authorities present welcomed Mother: the Mayor of Namaacha, Mr. Jorge Tinga, gave a short discourse highlighting the great contribution of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians to their children’s education, a complete education that prepares them for life and forms citizens for a new future. They spoke of the good relationship with the local authorities that allows for a sharing of experiences at the educational and social levels. He made reference to the Salesian style which is known and appreciated by all and that finds here in Namaacha an area that favours the growth of the Salesian Family. He indicated past pupils who have grown up in a Salesian place and their example will be followed by their children. Besides the Mayor, others present were: the District Director of Public Instruction, Mrs. Bela da Gloria, and Mrs. Anabela Mendes who is responsible for Social Action.
In the afternoon, Mother and the Provincials of CIAM began the Spiritual Retreat that will end on March 18. Fr. Alvaro Lopez will animate the experience. He is a Consolata Missionary and will offer reflections on the theme of GC XXIII, “Broaden your Gaze: with the young, missionaries of hope and joy”.FOTO FLICKR
