A special prayer for peace in Venezuela
Rome (Italy). On May 21, 2017, the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference is promoting a Day of Prayer for Peace in Venezuela. It is an invitation that the Mother General of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians extends to all the FMA and the educating communities of St. John Bosco Venezuelan Province (VEN) and to the Salesian Family of the world so that there will be an end to violence and oppression on the part of the State and for the promotion of dialog and reconciliation.
Below is the integral Message of the Mother General of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians to the Salesian Family.
To the attention of the Provincial Sr. Margarita Hernández
and FMA sisters of the Venezuelan Province
Dearest Sr. Margarita and sisters,
Before leaving for my visit to the FMA of Hungry, I want to reach you to assure you of the prayers of the General Council and of the whole Institute who, together with Pope Francis and with the Venezuelan Bishops’ Conference, are united with your people and with all of you in this period of great suffering.
We are especially close to you on May 21st, day of prayer for the Venezuelan Nation; a day that for the Salesian Family coincides with the beginning of the great Triduum to Mary Help of Christians.
As every year, I will have the possibility of being in Turin for the celebrations in her honor and my prayer in the Basilica, raised to Her by the faith and love of Don Bosco, will be intensified on the 24th. The entire ‘living monument’ will be spiritually present on that day in Turin to intercede for peace and an end to institutionalized violence in your dear Country. Together with the Bishops of VEC, we will pray for the beginning of an era of listening to the cry of the people and of reconciliation in the Country.
Don Bosco left us the heritage of a great love for Mary, honored as the Helper of Christians and of all of humanity. Therefore, we ask Her that all violence may cease and to protect her suffering children under Her mantle as a Mother.
She will take the Venezuelan people by the hand and accompany them to the building of a society in which every person can live in peace, in security, and in freedom. She is the Mother of all humanity and desires only the good for her children. This good comes from respecting basic human rights as well as a renewed listening to the Word of Jesus, Her Son.
May Mary Help of Christians help us to understand the concrete steps that lead to reconciliation; accompany us to fix our gaze on the God of Life and of Peace, as your Bishops recommend; to reconcile hearts so that finally violence will stop and a new time of peace will begin.
Let us together ask the Lord through the intercession of Mary, to support our effort in these difficult times, especially in the education of the new generations. We are the sign of the Lord’s presence among His people! A sign of hope and of love.
May the Holy Spirit illumine us in our educational mission so that we can accompany the young to be bridge-builders of peace, to live as good Christians and honest citizens in the actual situation, and thus contribute to the building of a more just society. He will give us the light to be able to discern at each moment how to live the charism.
United in prayer, I greet you one by one with great affection.
The Mother General of the FMA Institute
