Education, Communication and Proclamation. Balance after the first videoconference Nearly 90 connections, 4 continents, 38 Nations and 63 provinces, nearly 500 people between Sisters and laity were reached. The experience of distance learning, promoted by the Youth Ministry and Social Communication sectors last March 6, helped us to touch with our own hand how much the new technologies help to shorten distances. Preceded by a phase of preparation with the involvement of all the participants who had received texts on the chosen themes of the reports translated into 5 languages, they showed interest both in the theme and method of communication. There were two meetings on Saturday, March 6, in order to reach the different time zones. Bishop Domenico Pompili animated the session offering a reflection on the theme Education, Communication and Proclamation: between listening and then experience narrative. He began his presentation with a question: “How can we make education a human and communication process suited to the person and communication a truth that permeates culture?”

He also emphasized that “Education must rediscover its intrinsic relational nature and the reflection on communication and pedagogy that have the same formal objective: the relational task, the effort to assume an attitude of listening.”

Three dynamics of communication and education were presented: “Educate-communicating: recognizing, the communication act (while it is being carried out) in an educational function, not merely one that is “instrumental”; Communicate by listening : because listening is already communicating on the highest level, it is not merely a phase that precedes communication; Listening by educating: because authentic and faithful listening to the person is the “source and summit” of communication, and therefore of education.”

“A genuinely educational communication” stressed Bishop Pompili, “is capable of placing self in an attitude of listening of the ‘ humanum' , it does not make the means an absolute and seeks to get to ‘vitally' know the recipient of the educational process . Such communication is free from the misunderstanding of imposition and is discovered as an authentic gift, the ministry of a welcome a participation event.”

Speaking of challenge of freedom, he continued by saying: “Communication cannot become a form of ‘ideological colonialism', the problem is not ‘to convince', but to meet the person and to awaken his/her highest aspirations. For this reason we must rediscover the narrative model in educating by telling “.

Among the priorities it was indicated that there be training in communication skills: the person needs to narrate and listen to stories, and those who speak of faith cannot distance themselves from the story they are telling with words and life. The person telling the story is converted along with the listener.

At the conclusion of his talk, the Secretary of the CEI stressed the importance of feeling responsible for personal self formation , and the daring that must accompany the proclamation of the Gospel, taking a chance more on the humanum of the faith that exists only by being incarnated, inculturated, localized.

Bishop Pompili's reflections involved the participants who expressed comments and asked questions through the chat room feature. It was interesting to note that the multi-lingual participation did not impede the comparison and dialogue. Felicito al equipo de comunicación por este nuevo paso que han dado. Es increible ver y sentir tan cerca a hermanas que en otro tiempo estaban tan lejos, que nunca veiamos ni escuchábamos.
