Here she continues to give herself to the poor and the suffering. The news of this unexpected award embarrassed her, but she immediately attributed this recognition to all the Sisters of her community at the hospital and to the Institute.

On March 18 th the President of the Italian Republic , Giorgio Napolitano, visited with his wife Clio Maria Bittoni. From morning the hospital was all action in preparation for the coming of the President and to get every place ready for the guest of honour. At 4 p.m. the hospital filled with Syrian security police, who searched every corner to avoid any surprises. At 5 p.m. the doctors arrived, all dressed in their best, along with the nurses, technical and service personnel in their uniforms, as well as all the Sisters of the hospital and the school and our Salesian Confreres.

There to welcome the guests at the door of the emergency department were the President of the Association (ANSMI), Dr. Maurizio Saglietto, the Health Director, Dr. Josef Fares, the Provincial Sr. Marie Claire and the animator Sr. Anna Menegon. The President was also accompanied by the Foreign Minister, Franco Frattini, the Italian Ambassador, Achille Amerio with his wife Loretta and the First Councillor, Gianfranco Petruzzella and many others from the Italian Embassy. The President greeted the members of the Association: Dr. Mario Ricci, Dr. Sandro Leone, the Salesian Confreres and all those present with a handshake for each one. When he reached the foyer, a nurse, dressed in Arab costume, offered Mrs. Clio seven red roses, the symbol of Damascus , which are offered to all guests of honour. The Health Director spoke some words of welcome in the name of the whole hospital team, expressing their joy at having him among them. After a short visit to the hospital, he was accompanied to the house of the Sisters, where he was welcomed with great familiarity and affection.

After a brief address of welcome and thanks by the Animator and the President of the Association, there was an exchange of gifts. President Napolitano signed the golden book and addressed the community and all those present, expressing his satisfaction and surprise at the atmosphere of serenity and spontaneity he had immediately noted between Sisters, doctors and hospital personnel, a sign that they all live the joy of giving themselves impartially to all those who come seeking help to regain their health. He thanked them for their welcome and the benevolence he had experienced.
