Inauguration of the Academic Year of the “Auxilium” Faculty

Inauguration of the Academic Year of the “Auxilium” Faculty Rome ( Italy ). All of the three communities of the “Auxilium” Institution, Rome , were present for the solemn inauguration of the academic year 2011-2012, on the morning of October 25. Mother Yvonne Reungoat, who had recently returned from the Philippines , came from the Generalate, together with some General Councillors and Sisters from the community. The morning opened in a packed theatre, which had been tastefully prepared as a Chapel for about an hour, for the celebration of the Eucharist. The chief celebrant was Bishop Enrico Dal Covolo, Rector of the Lateran Pontifical University , together with some priests who are lecturers or students at the “Auxilium” Faculty. The homily caught everyone's attention because of the depth and liveliness with which the bishop spoke. This was followed, after a short break, by the report on the academic year 2010-2011, given by the President of the Faculty, Sr. Pina Del Core. In a dynamic and clear way, the speaker gave the background of the past year in the context of some aspects of the historic moment in which we are living. After having outlined progress made, she focused on the priority choices for the year that has already begun. Among other things, she shared new courses on offer by the Faculty and pointed out the very relevant theme that will be deepened during the year in moments that integrate the lectures: “Human rights and prevention”. The focal point of the morning was the keynote address, given by Professor Gian Maria Fara, sociologist and President of EURISPES (The European Institute of Political, Economic and Social Studies) who gave a masterly reflection on the theme of “Wasting the future: young people caught between the search for meaning and abandonment”. From this rich input a picture of the social and political reality emerged in which the younger generations especially are called to live today. They are “hostages of a faceless finance that is without ethics, flag or responsibility”. Our duty, the speaker held, is to “listen and interpret the many signals that reach us from our young people, instead of liquidating their demands…” At the end of this intervention there was an opportunity to respond on the part of the President. Then Mother Yvonne offered her passionate and profound words, highlighting the importance of dedicating all ones energy, with courage and conviction, to a quality educational service, in an atmosphere of joy and hope. The morning was made more beautiful by a musical intermission from Duo Goya , the stars of which were Francesca Timperi on the flute and Claudio Capuano on the guitar. They fascinated the audience and made them vibrate with their out standing musical talent.
