Sr. Alaíde’s family came from Massaranduba (Santa Catarina - Brazil) where she was born on April 25, 1950. From childhood she attended the school of Nossa Senhora Auxiliadora in Rio do Sul (Santa Catarina) and she completed her studies there.

After her profession, she obtained a Degree in Education from the Catholic Pontifical University of Porto Alegre. She completed her studies by attending the Course of Spirituality at the Pontifical Faculty of Educational Sciences Auxilium (Rome), 1985-1987.

She has to her credit a long experience of animation as teacher, community animator, provincial secretary and councillor. She was nominated Provincial of the province of N. S. Aparecida, Porto Alegre (1993-1999). During her years in this service she was particularly attentive to the spiritual life of the Sisters, deepening Salesian Spirituality, and building communion between the members of the educating communities, in order to ensure the quality of the mission among the young people.

She has an optimistic personality, capable of dialogue, cheerful and respectful of the mystery of the other and her presence among the Sisters, young people and children is always characterised by joy and simplicity.

For three years, she was President of the Interprovincial Conference of Brazil (CIB). 
She filled the role of executive Secretary of the Southern Region of the Conference of Religious of Brazil.  
As Provincial Delegate for the province of Porto Alegre to the Chapter, she took part in the preparatory phase of GC XXI (2002), collaborating with the pre-chapter Commission. This same Chapter called her to the role of Visiting Councillor. During the six year term she visited six provinces in Latin America, two in Europe and two in Africa.

In GC XXII (2008), Sr. Alaíde offered her availability to the assembly and was called to animate the Sector for the Missions ad gentes. «Following your example, she responded to Mother Yvonne, I say my YES to be a missionary disciple, because ‘woe to me if I do not evangelise’».
In her journey of animation of this Sector, she gave particular attention to the areas of animation, formation, missionary co-operation and new missionary frontiers, often becoming a pilgrim in mission lands. During this term of office she developed the processes previously begun and started new ones, especially regarding awareness raising and missionary formation, in synergy with the other Sectors and with the SDB Department.
