The Feast of Don Bosco of this Bi-Centenary year of his birth was marked with a mega event ‘Don Bosco Peace Yatra’ was held with the theme ‘Peace is Possible’ from Dighalipukhuri to Don Bosco, Panbazar - Guwahati on 30th January, Friday 2015 at 10:30 am.
About 5,300 students from 12 Salesian and FMA Schools participated. It was such a rare privilege and a fitting occasion to communicate the message of peace as the state of Assam is going through a time of turmoil and chaos with the recent incidents of violence in BTAD (Bodoland Territorial Aria Districts) Areas. With the flags of the bicentenary of Don Bosco’s birth, banners of peace, the masks of different leaders who work for Peace such as St. Teresa of Kolkata, Mahatma Gandhi, Pope Francis ‘the man of the year’, and St. John Bosco, participants walked the street of Guwahati inspiring the onlookers and people on the road to join hands to work together for peace and harmony in the state.
At the conclusion of the Peace Rally in Don Bosco ground the dignitaries, heads of Institutions, representatives of different Institutions, Associations paid floral tribute to Don Bosco, Father and Friend of the Young. The Chief Guest Dr. Dhruba Jyoti Saikia, Vice Chancellor of Cotton College State University said, “The PEACE rally indeed grand and majestic. Don Bosco, the educator, saint and Friend of youth was an apostle of PEACE and a harbinger of social harmony. The North East India and Guwahati in particular have received much from Don Bosco especially in the field of education, youth empowerment and peace building. The Peace Rally was an expression of our faith in the possibility of PEACE. The cardinal ideals of Don Bosco – Peace, Love and Compassion – should be imbibed by the present generation.” Fr. Vattathara Thomas SDB, the Provincial of Salesian Guwahati, reiterated the need for peace in today’s global scenario and said that PEACE is possible if we all desired for it. Sr. George Elizabeth FMA, the Provincial of Guwahati encourages the vibrant young people to become promoters of PEACE, exhorting them that PEACE is possible.
The dignitaries released the Balloons symbolizing the bicentenary of Don Bosco’s birth and Pigeons of ‘Peace’. After which Hymns were sung to Don Bosco. The cheers for Peace echoed the whole campus with slogans, ‘Give Peace a Chance’, ‘Peace is Possible’.
