Bosco Blowout (San Antonio, USA)
St. John Bosco Community hosted our first “Bosco Blowout” to commemorate St. John Bosco’s 200th Birthday. This was a two-day program designed for young adults, for the purpose of drawing closer to Jesus in the spirit of St. John Bosco. This event was planned by the Junior Professed of Mary Immaculate Province. The participants included sixty young adults, Salesian Sisters, priests from our local parishes and Fr. Jose Lucero, SDB as the Keynote speaker. The event not only included fun and games but also moments of deep reflection and prayer. The time for Adoration and Reconciliation was particularly moving. It was touching to see this group of young adults walking in pilgrimage from the St. John Bosco School campus to Our Lady of the Lake University Campus. It was in this beautiful, University sanctuary that we concluded St. John Bosco’s feast day with a solemn Eucharistic liturgy with the rest of our Salesian Family of San Antonio and Laredo together with our Archbishop, Gustavo Garcia-Siller.
The Salesian Family gathered for a Eucharistic celebration of St. John Bosco’s feast day with our Archbishop, Gustavo Garcia-Siller and many of our chaplain priests from our neighboring communities. The Sisters of Divine Providence graciously hosted our families, Past Pupils, Cooperators and Benefactors from our educating communities of San Antonio, Laredo and Austin in their beautiful sanctuary, Sacred Heart Chapel. A reception followed, with long-time friends connecting and reminiscing years of Salesian joy.
Before the final blessing of our liturgy, our Archbishop, together with Sr. Patricia King and Sr. Theresa Sironi bestowed our Bicentennial Life-time Achievement Awards. Three persons from Mary Immaculate Province were selected to receive this award, distinguishing and thanking them for their outstanding collaboration over the years, in furthering the dream and mission of St. John Bosco.
